Canada Games Athletics Facility Takes Shape
We’re almost there! The 2009 Canada Games athletics facility is coming to a completion! The final layer of the 400-metre, eight-lane track surface is down and the lines are being painted over the next couple of weeks; the sidewalks are constructed; and the buildings are almost complete. The outer sides of the bowl surrounding the track are already green with new grass. The remainder of the sod is complete. Completion is set for November 28.
During the Games next summer, UPEI will be the site for some of the highest-profile competitions, such as athletics, swimming, diving, men's soccer and volleyball, and the closing ceremonies. In addition, the university will play other significant roles, notably as the Athletes’ Village for the second week, in partnership with the entire PEI community.
Welcome to UPEI!
Committed to creating an accessible and inclusive community for learning, teaching, and living, the University of Prince Edward Island combines tradition with leading-edge research and real-world learning opportunities, resulting in a reputation that extends far beyond the Island’s shores.
